Hybrid Chestnut

Castanea x. 1-year-old bareroot seedings. These seedling trees range in size from 1.5-2 feet tall generally. Hybrid chestnuts may be selected for the qualities of their nuts, but also for their timber form growing habit.

• Vancouver Forest seedlings – complex hybrids between Chinese, Japanese, American, and European chestnuts from the PNW.

• Arthur Graves seedlings – from Arthur Grave’s Sleeping Giant planting, incorporating American, Chinese, and Japanese genetics.

• Eaton seedlings – well-known cultivar tree (cross of Chinese x Japanese x American) introduced by Arthur Graves.

• Colossal seedlings – grown from the Colossal cultivar which is a hybrid of Japanese and European (C. crenata x C. sativa).

• Northern Hybrids – from 10 different seedling lots proven hardy in zone 4. Selected for nut qualities and productivity.
